Microwave Bowl Pot Holder

When I make a Thai Chicken Curry I always make enough to feed 4-6 people, and since I am the only one in our house who eats it, I ALWAYS have left overs. I am also short (5′ barely 2″) and our microwave is in a built-in shelf which is quite high. Actually everything in our kitchen was built for 6′ or above people – like cupboards with shelves that go ALL THE WAY TO THE CEILING!!!! Anyway, so I am always using the microwave to reheat food in bowls and always almost burning myself. And then comes the issue of when your food is hot enough, how you sit on the couch and eat it without burning yourself.

So, someone came up with this genius little invention, and I thought why not make one. This is the tutorial I used, however there are many out there. I couldn’t find 2 pieces of fabric I liked the look of matching together, so I thought I would just make it in one colour all around. I also found 100% cotton batting at the fabric store. It was a little pricy, but I’d rather pay a little bit more now than have to buy a new microwave or worse from a fire.

When I attempted to sew the final hole closed, the double batting was a little thick for my standard needles and I bent one and then broke a second one! Good thing spare needles came with my machine!

So I finished the seam where there was no batting an thankfully did not break another needle! Changing needles on my sewing machine is SUPER easy! I actually can’t wait to try this baby out, and being that the fabric and batting are both cotton it is totally washable!
